RTKL to design Shanghai Medical Complex

RTKL, a subsidiary of international design firm Arcadis, has won a contract to design the RMB2.82 billion ($413 million) Shanghai Changzheng New Pudong Hospital in China, which will be the largest single-phase hospital development in China.
The 2,200-bed facility, spread over 361,000 square meters, will include four inpatient towers, a VIP tower, an outpatient center, an emergency center, and an infectious disease building. Plans also include research and teaching facilities, dormitories for students and staff, an administration building, and a conference and reception facility.
RTKL will provide master planning and design services for the project, while Shanghai Municipal Architecture Design Institute will handle the construction documentation.
RTKL beat 30 architectural firms in an international design competition to be selected for this project. Construction is slated to begin in late 2010.
