Primary Care Centre employs Sotech facade system
The new-build Primary Care Centre at Houghton Le Spring in Tyne and Wear, UK has incorporated an architectural metal façade system by Sotech.
Primary Care Centre at Houghton Le Spring is the first healthcare project to be awarded a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating along with the title of Best Healthcare Building in the UK. It was designed as a combination of social care and health facilities.
The Optima IPC System from Sotech was chosen for the installation of metal facade. P+HS Architects specified the range which was installed by Indbuild Ltd. The Optima IPC System is provided in aluminium with a pre-coat finish to look like Corten steel. It has helped the building go above and beyond the Department of Health’s required ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
The IPC system allows quick and accurate installation and has low maintenance with a very long life. A curved sub structure was especially developed by Sotech for the project, which allowed the panels to follow the curve on site. The materials used in the system can be recycled. Different colours and materials can be used on the metal plank cladding. All components meet the requirements laid out in BS476 part 7, Class O.
Complete with a 24-bed rehabilitation ward, GP consulting rooms and diagnostic areas laid out around a central two-storey atrium, the building has been heralded as exemplary for its low carbon construction technologies and low energy consumption levels.http://www.sotech-optima.co.uk/
