Oakwood Heritage Hospital Bone and Joint Unit unveiled in Michigan
Published: 10-Sep-2010
Oakwood Healthcare (OHI), a comprehensive health care delivery system in south-eastern Michigan, has unveiled the new 12-bed Bone and Joint patient care unit at Oakwood Heritage Hospital (OHH) in Taylor, Michigan.
The new Bone and Joint Unit spanning 6,600 square feet features 12 up-to-date patient care rooms, which are designed with comfort and convenience in mind. The facility also includes two VIP suites for distinguished guests. A new therapy gym, nourishment centre and a common area for visitors and guests, designed to enhance the hospital experience, are some other components of the unit.
The space was formerly part of the Mental Health Unit at the hospital, which is located at 10000 Telegraph Road, between Wick and Goddard roads.
The three-year project included expansion of operating rooms, as well as pre-operative and post-operative services, to include up to eight total operating rooms and 40 private pre/post op bays. The addition of a new dedicated entrance for the bone and joint institute include a new canopy, parking lot, common areas and registration suites to allow for VIP-like services and family amenities.
The new Bone and Joint Unit is one phase of a $31 million expansion and renovation project to create a specialised surgical centre of excellence focused on orthopaedic care. The project is the largest improvement planned at the hospital since the hospital opened its doors in 1977.
The facility will also support the Wayne State University residency programs in Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation housed at the Oakwood Heritage campus.
Construction is also underway on a new Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine, which will replace the temporary Hyperbaric Treatment Center at the hospital and combine Hyperbaric treatment with advanced Wound Care treatment in the same location. The project is expected to complete in November 2010.
