Marlborough Hospital in US to get new Cancer Pavilion

Marlborough Hospital in Massachusetts, US will construct a $11.7 million Cancer Pavilion to provide expanded cancer care services.

The hospital will work in partnership with the UMass Memorial Health Care Cancer Center of Excellence, S/L/A/M Collaborative, Glastonbury, CT, and Tocci Building Corporation in Woburn.

The project will adopt a new and highly coordinated approach called Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to building design would help to streamline project results, reduce waste and maximise efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction of the project. The primary objective is to bring all cancer services together under one roof with a dedicated patient entrance and services. The IPD approach will save $1.7 million in construction costs.

The Cancer Pavilion will lead to the addition of 14,500 square-feet to the north side of the hospital. It will integrate cancer care services such as medical oncology and radiation oncology. Presently, medical oncology is located on the second floor of the hospital’s 1952-built building while radiation oncology is available only off site.

The hospital will form a project advisory board comprising patients and families, physicians, nurses, hospital staff and community members who will provide input into the pavilion’s elements. The design process is expected to last six months. Post completion of the design process, the hospital will obtain construction funding, zoning approvals and then begin construction.
