Published: 05-Mar-2013

Construction is underway for the new $335 million Mercy Hospital Joplin in Missouri, US which will replace the former St. John’s Mercy Regional Medical Center demolished in the 2011 EF-5 tornado.

Spread over 875,000 square feet, Mercy Hospital is a 260-plus private room hospital. Upon completion, the new hospital will include facilities for medical surgical, critical care, women’s/children’s (labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms), behavioral health and rehab.

The bottom three floors of the structure will include hospital space with a seven-storied patient tower and a four-storied clinic tower rising above the hospital space. There is also a separate 30,000 square feet central utility plant connected to the main structure by a 450-foot underground tunnel.

The exterior of the building will be completed in November 2013 while the central utility plant will be operational by January 2014. The main structure is expected to open in March 2015.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is the general contractor of the project.
